It's Time for a New Representative
I’ve been talking with voters in the district for several months and I often say that I believe we need more “bean-counters” at the state house, keeping track of where the money is going, and fewer people creating policy based on how many “Facebook likes” they get.
Last year Massachusetts received billions of dollars more than was necessary to run the state. While the legislature is being forced to return some of this money to the taxpayers, there is still a huge surplus of cash to be distributed to the cities and towns in Massachusetts during an election year.
The closer we get to the election, the more emails and Facebook posts we receive from our representatives informing us of all the money they’ve obtained for our communities. Each or these notifications is emblazoned with their campaign logo, to try and convince you that the money directed to our community is due to their efforts.
DON’T BE FOOLED! IT’S YOUR MONEY!
You were overcharged. Your representative is taking credit for giving some of your money back to your town. They hope that you will re-elect them so they can do the same thing the next election year. They’re buying your vote with your money. It was not a campaign donation. You were required to pay the taxes and fees that generated much of the exorbitant surplus in the first place.
IT’S TIME TO VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE.
Although it’s great that your representative can give a few hundred thousand dollars (of your money) to your town for a specific project, maybe you’d prefer to keep more of your money. You should be able to decide where your hard-earned money is spent.
IT’S TIME FOR A NEW REPRESENTATIVE.
I oppose new taxes and support identifying opportunities to reduce existing ones. I am fiscally conservative and plan to bring my business experience and some common sense to Beacon Hill. We need to spend our tax revenue more wisely, prioritize our needs better, and learn to live within a budget.
I greatly appreciate your support. I hope to win your vote on November 8th so I can become the State Representative of the 18th Essex District. Together we will bring a much-needed change to Beacon Hill.
